Showers
The shower is great when built, accessorized, and cleaned properly but frustrating and time consuming when it is not one or more of those things. Showers have maintenance, accessory, and construction material options that determine whether a person spends most his time taking a shower or cleaning one. Many people prefer long, soaking baths over showers, but with the correct maintenance and right accessory options that come with taking a shower, there could be more die-hard fans of the shower.
As the commercials tell us, showers cause a lot of mildew build up on the shower curtain, shower door and shower head. Those same commercials then tell the consumer to buy some product that will get rid of the spots and dirt accumulated on their shower stalls and shower doors. The only problem is that they never inform the consumer of the reason for the filth build-up in the shower room. They never say that the cause of the grime could be hard water that is mineral rich, which is entirely treatable. All a homeowner would have to do is apply water & oil repellent to the shower and it will act as a protective barrier for the shower's surface.
Furthermore, to keep vinyl or plastic shower curtains clean, all someone would have to do is put it into the washing machine with some baking soda. A homeowner should never use acidic cleaners, which can be damaging to the shower. Rather, use baking soda which is a cleaning solvent that is found in most homes and is very cheap, too. Leaks from a broken shower pan in bathroom showers can lead to a musty odor. Or, a poorly installed shower pan in an expensive steam shower can damage the floor, ultimately costing more money than the steam shower itself.
A baby-sized effort from a homeowner can keep her/his shower from suffering enormous and expensive damage. The gross games that hard water and shoddy shower pans play on a homeowner's shower head, doors, and walls are easily remedied with just a few preemptive efforts. Also, it is best to consult an expert on how to proceed in repairing a shower pan while using the water and oil repellant can be just a part of everyday shower care. Commitment to maintenance in the shower will no doubt make it one of the best rooms in the house.
